I've just started a new wiki project - The Arcana Wiki. I got the idea for this project when I was reminded, once again, just how much cool material from the real world - mythology, occultism, UFO lore, conspiracy theories, or just interesting cultural tidbits - can inspire adventures or even entire campaign setting. So I wanted to start a wiki that does just that - collect interesting real world information, and then add a list of adventure and campaign ideas to it. If you ever browsed an interesting Wikipedia article and thought to yourself: "This would make for an awesome adventure seed!", then this wiki is for you. I've started with two sample entries - the Aufhocker (a nasty German demon/fairy/undead monster that likes to assault lone travelers late at night) and the philosophy of Transhumanism (including quite a few examples on how it applies to fantasy settings). I hope that these two radically different examples will inspire others to write material of their own. Possible new material could include: - More mythological creatures, including cryptids (like the chupacabra) or aliens from UFO lore. - Conspiracy theories (what if David Icke was right and lizard people really do hide among us?) - Cities and other locales (if you ever thought that a particular building or other locale in your city would make for an awesome fight scene, create an entry and explain why! The same goes if your city has some awesome urban legends...) - Strange belief systems and customs from other countries and cultures that would be perfect for fleshing out fantasy or science fiction societies. - Details about specific periods and events in history that would make for fascinating backgrounds for adventures. - And anything else you can think of! Anyone interested in joining this project?
