The Books That Could Have Been...

I once considered the Wheel of Time series to be my favorite...but I haven't even gone out to get the new book, yet. I probably will, at some point, but the magic's gone. Jordan's lost control of the monster he's made, and until he reigns it back in, I'm not as interested. Martin has taken his place in my heart.

I don't think that Jordan can bring that monster back under control- the plot has become too convoluted, there are too many characters- he's spun his work into a literary web that makes The Silmarillion look like The Cat in the Hat. Too bad... the first three books are still my favorite fantasy series ever.

Of course, I still haven't gotten around to reading Martin... or all of Moorcock's Eternal Champion...
