In a related note to a thread that was on this board recently, I thought I would post the results of last nights gaming session... Our group is disguised as a group of travelling carnival people... We are only part of a larger carnival. So, we had set up shop in a new city. I was wandering around, waiting for my act to start, and trying to gather information. I said to the DM, "Ok, I'm going to go buy a sandwich from a vendor-cart and nibble on it as I walk, to make myself look like a carnival atendee". To which the DM responded, "Sandwiches haven't been invented in my world, sorry." This DM is quite fond of having things not invented in his world, I might point out, including some fairly obvious things. Boy did my eyes light up... I hadn't been doing a good job performing my act, because I have no ranks in perform anyhow... So I just got a great idea, thanks to this board :) My response to the DM went something like this: "What? Hmmm, ok... I'm going to walk around the city itself and find a few stores. First, I'm going to find a baker, and order a gross of rolls. Then I'm going to find a cheesemaker and buy a big wheel of cheese. Then I'm going to find a butcher and order a couple cheap roasts. On my way back from that, I'll stop at a couple of merchants boothes in the market and buy a small bag of meat-seasoning herbs, and a sack of onions. When I get back to our wagon, I'll set up a campfire and slow-cook the roasts, so that they will be ready in the morning. I'll busy myself cutting up onions, and cheese. When I wake up in the morning, I'll go pick up the rolls I ordered. Then I'll borrow one of the push-carts that the carnival has, and put three buckets in it... In one bucket, I'll put the onions, in one the cheese, and in one the meat, which I will now slice. In the rest of the cart, I will put the rolls. Then I'll walk around the fair, hawking "Jaris* Buns! Jaris Buns for sale! Eat a good, filling meal, and don't get your hands dirty! Jaris Buns for sale!". If someone buys one, I'll slice a roll, stick meat, onions, and cheese in it, and charge him 2 copper (About 2 dollars in the DMs world)." DM kept shooting me glares the rest of the night... :D * Jaris being my character's name
