The circle of RPG life

Asmor

First Post
In the beginning, there was Tolkien; and there was a great nerd rage because Asmor said Tolkien was a hack and the LotR sucks and Asmor only wrote this sentence so there could be no silly pedantry about him forgetting Tolkien.

In the beginning of things which are worth caring about, there was D&D. And yea, it was good.

And when our cultured cousins from across the pond got D&D, thus was begat Warhammer. And yea, it was good.

And then a moderately successful, little-known game developer named Blizzard took the idea of Warhammer and created Warcraft. And yea, it was good.

And then, fat on previous success and fanatic popularity, Blizzard created World of Warcraft. And yea, it was good.

And then Wizards of the Coast, seeing the popularity of World of Warcraft, decided to create a tabletop RPG based on the MMO and thus begat D&D Fourth Edition. And yea, it was good.

And the circle is closed, my brothers and sisters, but the circle never ends. For noted board game cartel Fantasy Flight Games, seeing how well translating an MMO into an RPG worked, have themselves worked on translating a board game into an RPG, and thus begat Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 3rd Edition. And yea, it is good.

Brothers and sisters, gather around me, and sing praise with me for that gloriousness which we know must now be coming, for a reputable source says Blizzard shall now turn the Warcraft RTS into an RPG. And yea, it shall be good!

So, instead there can be silly pedantry about you perhaps not getting the definition of "hack" correct? :) I'm fine with folks not liking Tolkien, but I'm going to speak up when undeserved pejoratives are applied.

Ye forgot FFG's Descent board game, which did ye spawn WFR 3E, which was preceded by Warhammer Quest, which was ye preceded by Heroquest and Advanced Heroquest which had been preceded by TSR's Dungeon Boardgame. And somewhere along thy way the red-headed stepchild Dragonstrike had been spawned.

That pedantry is acceptable and noted.

Yeah, well, he also left our WFR 1e, apparently skipping straight to 3e. I don't think completeness is really the goal here :)

Indubitably. Never let facts get in the way of a good story.
