Having to decide which of those encounters was the best was really difficult! If anyone's interested, here's what I thought of the best four (in the order that I read them): L’amour de Erinyes: Rules followed. Encounter: Grammar is mostly good. Writing style is good. Hook is intriguing, but may be difficult to employ. Overall premise is very interesting, and presents a good moral dilemma; the right thing to do in this situation may be to help the evil character. Location: Very well detailed, if somewhat cliched. The flavor text is nice, particularly the inside flavor-text. No map is provided, but none is necessary. Character: Excellent. The background is good, the actual character of the character is particularly good. Especially good is the fact that the character is not as suicidal as she seems. Overall: B+ "Catch As Catch Can": Rules followed. Encounter: Grammar is pretty good. Writing style is pretty good. Hook is nice and simple, as is the entire encounter. It is an interesting change of pace from the typical combat encounter. Location: The setting of this encounter is incredibly portable. No map is provided, but, certainly, none is necessary. Character: The character(s) had great potential, but no details of any kind (save stat blocks) are provided. This is a disappointment. Overall: C *Cough*, I Feel *Cough* Great!: Rules followed. Encounter: Grammar is mostly good. Writing style is very good. Hook is nice and simple. The encounter is very interesting and a good change of pace, and should be particularly unusual or surprising for the PCs. It also opens up plenty of hooks of its own. Location: A nice map is provided, but not necessary. The location is extremely portable and very interesting, particularly the inclusion of the commoners as part of the location. Character: Well described and well detailed. The tactics are excellent. Overall: B+ An Unexpected Visitor Drops In: Rules followed. Encounter: Grammar is very good. Writing style is very good. Hook is excellent (particularly the flavor text). The entire situation is very different from the norm and highly intriguing. Location: This is simply the best location for an encounter. Ever. A nice map and illustration is included, but neither is necessary. Character: Pretty good character. His description from the players point of view in the encounter section is particularly nice. Overall: A- (and the recipient of my vote) A minor note: There were entries that rated higher grades than "Catch as Catch Can", but I really liked the premise of the encounter (and I'll use it, too). The total lack of character information is what dragged the grade down on that one. Kudos to all of the authors, but especially (so far) to these!
