I'm between campaigns, but I'll be more than happy to fill in the details of the last BBEG... The villian was Baron Cristoph von Franken, a mad scientist gnome of the usual streak- kicked out of the academy of medicine for "unorthodox" methods, studied necromancy and set out to destroy the city where he was rejected by building a monster. Although the Keepers of Lore managed to keep the incident under cover enough to make the general impression that his monster was just a flesh golem, it was actually an undead powered by both positive and negative energy, granting it something almost like a soul (I found a living undead template here on ENWorld, and wanted to try it out). The party never interacted much with Franken himself, but did do battle several times with Jasper, his familiar, who was an imp with the unpleasant alternate form of a barbed devil. Jasper was manipulating his master, as all good imp familiars do, urging Franken to finish his experiments so that Jasper could take over after his untimely death at the hands of adventurers. Jasper got too cocky, and was slain by the party before they could meet Franken. Who slaughtered them, with the help of his creation, whom he had dubbed Revenge. The sole surviving member of the party found a new team of adventurers to pick up where he had failed, but by the time they got there, Franken was already dead, killed by the caller in darkness that had formed from all of the souls (including the last party and Jasper) who had died under his roof. The caller, with Jasper's personality dominant, was trying to gather an army of ghouls and shadows to slaughter all that lived in his path before he was laid to rest by the party. Demiurge out.
