The dangers of DnD

I wish I had players who would appreciate the joke if I had an NPC named black leaf die to an arrow trap... Well, I have one who might, but I seriously doubt it.

Ah, Dark Dungeons, how do I love thee!

Ironically, when the whole "D&D is satanic" thing was big in the 80's sales went up! When it was revelaed that D&D turns kids into nerds and not satanists the whole thing blew over. We're such a small market that book burnings can only help our industry.

I think Jack Chick is a fascinating person. His claims about his own life are truly remarkable. He's quite old and stopped doing his own artwork in the 60s (IIRC). He had his personal revalation sometime in the 50s after he served in the army during WW2. What's really wild is that he says he worked on some of the original RPGs before he started drawing his tracts. Gary Gygax would have been around 10 years old at the time if this were true.

In any case, he remains the world's most published author. Given that a google search reveals more parody/debunking/"Jack Chick hates D&D" sites than actual Jack Chick fan sites, I'm not terribly concerned about his influence.

In the interest of complying with Enworld's policy re:religious discussions, I'll reserve my standard diatribe on how stupid this is and how it paints Christians in a bad light.

MWAH HA HA HAAA!
You rolled your Strength! Your soul is mine!!

Ooooh! A use for all our old 3.0 books. We could masquerade as concerned parents and hold a book-burnin'. Anything we can do to grow the hobby, right? Wonder if we could get Wizards to sponsor us....

With more than 500 million copies of his 142 books in print, including translations in more than 100 languages, Chick is the world's most published living author .... Last year his 35-employee company made nearly $3 million in sales

Remember, these aren't 700 page scholarly texts filled with academic references. They're tiny little cheap comic books.

Look at it this way, if the guy really wanted to, he has more than enough money to slap down $60 million bucks and buy the entire D&D license. He hasn't. He won't. He's a 79 year-old man who would dissapear if people ignored him and he hasn't been interviewed since 1975. He isn't worth the energy to be outraged about. There are other things in life that are more deserving. Like Egg Nog flavored ice cream. Who eats that stuff?
