The Dark Elf City of Hosuth

This is one of the AEG mini-modules. They've upped the price to $2.99. This title of this one is actually "The Dark Elf City of Hosuth", not the "Dark Elf". It's written by Ree Soesbee, which I why I picked it up - I really liked her "Jerimond's Orb" (another mini-module). Actually, this isn't a module. It's a sourcebook. A mini-sourcebook. It details the city of Hosuth, though since it's only a few pages, it's pretty sparse.

Unlike most Dark Elf cities, this is not underground, but in a swamp. It seems that they used to have an underground city nearby, but due to an accident, it was flooded. So they had to flee outside. They found a tribe of lizard folk nearby, and enslaved them. The new city they built is a combination of the old lizard man city, and Dark Elf architecture. While these Dark Elves are evil, they prefer to trade, not fight. Thus Hosuth is open to all traders.

This book (as such as it is), starts off with a description of the city. There are 7 general locations (City Edge, Lake, Merchants Area), a few of which have smaller locations detailed. Not many. Then there are 13 adventure hooks, and 3 NPCs (2 of them share an entry). Lastly there is a new type of lizardman, and a new spell, "Mutate Egg".

Anyway, it's a nice idea, and as a city goes, it's pretty evil. But too much of the space is devoted to descriptions of the NPCs, and the new spell/lizard folk (which frankly, just aren't very interesting or necessary), instead of fleshing out the city more. The way the adventure hooks are formatted also takes up a lot of space. So there's more white space than you'd like in a product this small.

While it's useable, you're going to have to do an awful lot of work to flesh out the city more. And the map isn't great, either. I give a C-
