I can see Keanu Reeves as an alien. :p

I love the original movie. Such a great, great movie that I could watch over and over and over. Its a movie, though, that worries me when it comes to updating. Its not really about action or explosions or any of that and I worry that its what a studio would demand from any 'alien' movie.

Not just any 'alien' movie...a KEANU REEVES 'alien' movie.

I will wait to hear more, because it IS an intriguing idea and I'd like to see how the themes are handled in light of today's political climate. But I have my doubts that they will be handled in a respectful way.

And if, at any point, Klatu says "woah!" I will be forced to stab SOMEONE in the eye.

This is one movie that should not be updated.
Now, I think it COULD be updated. That's the thing.

I think its one of those movies that everyone should see at least once, but most people these days never will. So you HAVE to update it to get it out there, in a sense.

But the real question is how is it going to be updated? If they stay true to the original movie, it can be just as good, if not better. If they try to make it into a big action flick...well...lets just hope against that.

Your point makes sense but of course its still kinda sad. This is a timeless movie that is watchable today. It really doesn't need a remake but most people won't get past the fact that its black and white. Lets hope they stay true.

They did a showing at the Screen on the Green last year (it's basically a drive-in movie theatre on the Mall in DC except you walk instead of drive). There were a couple thousand people there and it was hotter than hell. Everybody cheered when the spaceship first appeared and landed more or less where we were sitting.

Remaking it is an abomination.

Remaking the movie? Bad Idea (tm). Doing the original short story (Farewell to the Master, I think), maybe. In either case, I expect it to be bad. The movie was very much a part of its time.
