The Deathscene Action

There you go, the first detail about 5E mechanics. And I'm the one to report it here :D

At one point the DM tells a player whos cleric just died to undead:
"You've got a special action that's called a deathscene action. You basically have one action to do whatever you want, as part of your death scene."

This is kinda cool gimmick, but also IMO goes a way to prevent party wipe. I'm guessing a dying player can take some of his enemies with him.

Not a fan of such contrivances. I understand the literary/cinematic precedents, but generally don't enjoy them in my gaming unless really really genre appropriate.
 


I kinda like the idea of an oh crap button. It's new, and its fairly popular in MMOs. Guild WArs had some real good essays on why they included them and the logical reason. Mustering all your life energy for one last screw you.
 


They are playing 4E.

The "death scene" action is simply Chris Perkins being nice and letting him contribute one last time.

I doubt we'll see it as part of the core of D&D Next.
