Dvvega, I am aware of the 1 day/level duration that is sometimes imposed on Geas. I didn't want to get into the lawyering of the geas itself, but the suggestion to "read the spell" is a bit patronising (it assumes that I have not done so, or at least not carefully), so I'll just refer you back to the Geas spell description for the fact that geas has a permanent duration for any task that can be achieved (no matter how difficult), and the 1/day is only for prohibitory uses (it says "1 day/level or until discharged). Suffice it to say, my character asked the Lawful fighter for advice on the wording, in character, and we found a way that was proactive and attainable but unlikely to be completed before the party was safe from the druid (It involved forcing the druid to protect party members and foresters that she saw in danger until X number were saved, but did nothing to stop the druid from simply avoiding us if she chose and living her life without geas problems). If this hadn't worked, 1 day/level is a pretty brutal duration, giving us ample time to escape to farther regions. Note that 1/day is also the duration on Dominate spells, regardless of enemy Intelligence (in 3.x). Had I wanted to keep the rogue as my mind-slave (and I most certainly did not) I had plenty of time to renew the domination before it wore off (I actually went to the trouble of dispelling it when I was done, as it is not dismissible), but I will agree that it would not have been suitable for the deity-level mindrape in work in dead's campaign, since he could keep saving again until he eventually got that 20. Rimple Serf's goal would have required at the least the Thrall spell (a permanent domination) to force him, or the Mindrape spell (BoVD evil magic) to actually alter his mind into a state where he believes in the chaos. Considering the precedent with Mindrape, if the DM did give the player a Will Save behind the screen, the power is well within the rules, but its quite a cruel thing to do, and a Rare level 9 spell to boot. I don't mean to contradict the rest of what you said, since I agree with the spirit of your post, if not a few of the specifics.
