It offers a slight upgrade on the regular longspear (which is, after all, a simple weapon) and is in line with the DC's own version of the Short Haft feat (which would allow you to pull the same trick with any reach weapon, from memory). In many cases you'd be better off forgetting the duom once opponents are inside your reach anyway, so it doesn't seem out of line for a martial weapon.</blockquote>
