See, you're still missing the point. As I type this, I just checked, that 7th Sea kickstarter has 5000 (ish) backers. That means that he's sold 5000 copies of 7th Sea (or well, ok, not "sold" but, you know what I mean). That's it. 5000 copies. To be fair, as I type, the exact number was 5443. How can you possibly say that traditional distribution isn't that big? Look, even back in the day, when Paizo was publishing Dungeon and Dragon, combined, the two magazines were selling about 50000 copies on subscription A MONTH. IOW, 7th Sea, in comparison, is selling less than 1% in terms of copies sold, than Paizo sold with Dungeon and Dragon. If estimates are accurate, and WotC is hitting it's target of 100k copies of books, 7th Sea is about 5% of the size of a SINGLE WotC hardcover. This is why its being ignored. Even with all the advantages you list above - "exponential rate quicker" and all that - something from Kickstarter just doesn't sell enough copies that it would even be worth considering. 5000 copies? Of your core book? Fantastic for John Wick and I'm super, super happy for him and I'm glad it's available. But, I'm not about to pronounce the dominance of non-traditional book trade just yet. Like I said before, if you took all the Kickstarters for the year, lumped them into one, you'd still only equal a very small fraction of the total market. You asked why non-traditional sources weren't being considered. Well, there's your answer. They're just not big enough yet.
