It is indeed one of the classics. I remember reading it when I was a kid. I hope they don't screw this up.

I guess this will be a transposition of the original comic from the '50s, which is a more or less a straightforward science fiction story, rather than the more political remake of the late '60s or the sequel of the late '70s.

My understanding is that it is set in modern day Argentina, so most of the references to the South America situation of the '60-'70s and more in general to the Cold War will anyway not be relevant to the current political climate.
 

So, watched this over the long weekend and really liked it.

There are some new characters and changes to account for modern times, but I felt it manages to stay true to the spirit of the comic. If anything, I like that the TV series shows a more nuanced response of people to the catastrophe, rather than the almost universal "every men for themselves" of the original story.

First season stops around halfway the comic, at one of the big reveals. Netflix has apparently greenlighted season 2, which I think will require some more drastic changes. I don't feel modern audiences will be on board with some of the original plot resolution devices.
