The Fastest Character Ever

We're talking in terms of speed, here, and I'm offering a challenge, too....

Based on the PsiHB, the PHB, and Savage Species, a friend of mine has threatened to build a character who can basically move at 240 MPH.......he doesn't cast any spells that I know of, though he may have magical items. Monk levels, barbairan levels, and speed of thought and the Run feat are crucial to this....

....so, can anyone match it? Beat it? I think it comes out to about 2,000-some feet in a single round. Use as many levels as you like (non-epic, though), but focus it on movement alone....can you munch out a speed demon who can actually, physically, naturally, walk on water at these speeds? Nearly create a sonic boom?

It's a fun concept, and I'd like to run with it (pun intended), but I decided I'd come here to see how well it stands up.

Hmm... only did this for low level games... And with the Kalamar Players Guide. It wasn't maxxed out either, but enough to allow a level 4 halforc barbarian with Run and Sprint feat (nowadays Dash would be nice as well) who carried the limp kobold sorcerer and the limp gnome wizard in his backpack plus the "reduced" human cleric in his left hand to outrun hostile cavalry forces :D

Without spells.

I'd suggest multiclassing into infiltrator as well.

I don't have any 3.0 books but monks bonus speed is enchancement in 3.5, as is every magic item and spell I can see offhand in the SRD, so no stacking there. Barbarian is unnamed, but as barbarians are non-lawful and monks are lawful, no dice on mixing those either.

Ok, just using the SRD on the Wizards site (I have to assume the psionics as is for this):

Awakened Cheetah
Base move: 50 ft
Needs a 20 in Dex

Psion level 8: 27 PP/day, +3 bonus points for manifesting Psychoportation powers (30 PP total)
Choose Speed of Thought for every gainted feat (7 in all). Requires 28pp in reserve. +70 unnamed bonus to speed
Monk level 12: +40 enhancement to speed

Manifest Burst as free action +10 unnamed bonus to speed
On same round, use cheetah's sprint ability.

For that round, movement is 1700 ft, works out to 193.18 MPH

Unless Complete Wariror has something which can add... dropping a monk level loses 10ft of movement, dropping a psion level loses the needed reserve PP.

Human PsyWar 20th level has 1 human feat, 7 feats from levels, and 8 bonus feats from level PsyWar. Total of 16 feats, but since the PsyWar gets a free Weapon Specialization with a weapon with which he has Weapon Focus, he'll use 1 feat for WF.

Starting with a base speed of 30, he takes Speed of Thought as a feat 13 times, making his base speed now 160, and a power point reserve requirement of 61. He can't take all of his feats as Speed of Thought because he'll outpace his reserve points early on. Thus he has to spend his bonus 1st level feat on the Run Feat and his human feat on Inner Strength, giving him one extra Power Point, just enough to squeak by early on, but overkill later. Oh well, one extra power point is a lot for a PsyWar.

Add to this Polymorph Self as his 10th level power, so he can poly into a Light Warhorse for a speed of 60. Have your friend put some Horseshoes of Speed [1900 gp] on you, this doubles your base movement. (If you have no friends, then become a centaur and shoe yourself, but that drops the base speed down to 50.)

60x2 = 120 + 130 Speed of Thought = 250 feet per round normal movement. x5 sprint = 1250 feet per round, or 12,500 feet per minute. Which works out to be about 142.05 mph.

If you presume the doubling occurs after the Speed of Thought is added in, then the numbers go up a lot. 60+130 = 190 feet per round, x5 sprint x2 horseshoes = 1900 feet per round, or 19,000 feet per minute. Which works out to be about 215.91 mph.

Expeditious Retreat doubles those numbers for a relatively short duration.

Greg

PS: Burst is an unnamed bonus, and can be used to up the per round movement by +10 occasionally. That translates to a final speed of 227 mph, but that can only be done a few times per day.

Huh.. Speed of Thought is a psionic feat (was thinking PsiWar couldn't take as a bonus feat)...

OK then...
Awakened Cheetah
Level 17 PsiWar - Keeping 1 feat for Weapon Focus, that's 14 for Speed of Thought
Level 1 Barbarian - +10 movement
Leaves 2 levels to gain a class that might increase (Monk doesn't increase until level 3)

So:
Base 50, +140 for Speed of Thought, +10 for Barbarian = 200 even
Burst for 210, cheetah sprint for 2100

238.64 MPH in 3.5e

Some other possibilities (I'm not going to flesh them all out):
The feral template (SS) increases land base speed by 10ft.
This one is tricky (It's a strech beyond the rules): The Blade Dancer PrC effectively triples a character's move speed at class lvl 10 (doubles at class lvl 1), but only gives charts up to base speed 40'. So if the DM allows for the tables to be extrapolated, then it's all good.

Huh... where is the awakened template from? It rings a bell, but I can't seem to find it.
[edit] Dur. An awakened animal, as per the spell... I'm an idiot.
