History of Acacia and the Fortress of Dragons:
Near the beginnings of the dawn of the world, when the deities were more apt to interact with the races of the material plane, are many tales that have been lost in time. This tale occurs relatively near the time after which Corellon Larethian destroyed one of Gruumsh’s eyes, leaving him humiliated and full of anger and hatred.
Now, many say that the deities are without fault, because of their divine powers, but perhaps that is the view of a biased worshipper. For in the days of old, when Corellon had gouged out Grummsh’s eye, Corellon himself had his own, single, fault.
The isle Acacia then was used by Gruumsh’s followers as their own. It stood as the pinnacle of the orc race…a land full of brutish savagery and chaos. Orcish forts lined the mountainous island, and within each was a large feasting hall to dedicate the lifestyle of the drunk that often turned violent that the orcs so much enjoyed watching and participating in.
For reasons unknown to even the gods themselves, besides the very hatred of Gruumsh himself, Corellon sent the paragons of his own race, the elves, to do battle with the orcs and push them from their revered homelands. Corellon’s terrible grudge against Gruumsh took an indirect form, pitting mortal against mortal in a war that would last only ten years.
Though now the land of Acacia was his, Gruumsh had cursed the land so that any elf that lived on it would lose one of the most important things to him…his magic.
Despite Corellon’s mistake, the tale is rather unknown and unexplainably rare among even the most well versed of bards. Those that know of the tale believe that it was forgotten because of the creation of humanity and how the emergence of the race shadowed the event.
And so was the story, for thousands of years, that elves in Acacia lived without magic.
It was not until a dragon, by the name of Elestria, dedicated her life to serve the elven race. The gold dragon was the most powerful of her kind during the age, but nevertheless humble enough to protect the elves (and now humans) that lived in this magic-less land. That of course, meant that the dragon herself gave up any magical abilities that she would live with in life.
Corellon saw this and knew of the curse that Gruumsh had put on the land. Humbling himself, as the dragon had, Corellon stepped down into the material plane and dispelled (except for the place he touched down at) the great curse put on the land. Corellon then met with Elestria and offered her godhood…but the humble dragon said that she was not ready. So instead, Corellon constructed a small floating chamber, known as “the chamber of the stars” and placed it at the place where he touched down on the material world, so that the dragon could one day travel to meet him. Elestria built a grand fortress under it and imparted her wisdom to other dragons who came in search of the island that was once-magic-less.
Soon, three races lived in the land together; humans, elves, and dragons, lived together in times of both peace and war, prosperity and ruin, life and death. Peace would exist between the three friends for only a limited amount of time, until other manner of creatures entered the land.
