Most ENWorlders are primarily GMs, so yeah, right there is a big disconnect. It makes sense though, as GMs tend to consider the game more away from the table than players do. Your anecdotes remind me of a conversation with my FLGS owner recently. We used to play in Living Greyhawk back in the day, and there was a nearby convention for a couple years. The guy that helped run it is a member here, and my buddy at the FLGS asked me if I knew what he was up to these days. "I think I read on ENWorld that he's playing 1e now." He looked at me like I had three heads. :D To be honest, I'm not sure I'd have even thought to look back through old stuff without reading stuff here and other places. Whenever I've moved on from an older edition, it's always left a bad taste in my mouth. But nostalgia is a powerful thing. So is learning from earlier mistakes. I vowed a few years ago to never run a 3.x game again. And here I am running PF, but making sure not to make the same mistakes that made me dislike the game so much in the past.
