The god Crom

I'm just getting some ideas from people for my home campaign this week and was hoping some of you would have some ideas on what God stats would be most like "Crom" from Robert E. Howard's Hyboria.

I've got the Deities & Demigods 3e and most of the other D&D books to compare to.

Any ideas?

Okay, having only seen the movies, I would guess Crom's domains would be Earth, Strength and War. Maybe throw in Chaos?

I wonder a bit on those domains. He's a god that lives under the mountain, yes, but the quote has always been, "Crom does little but breathe life into men to inspire them to strive and slay." Maybe they would be non-earth domains and more related to strength and courage. Thoughts?

Also, what D&D/FR/Greyhawk/other god is he most like IYO?

Since we know very little about Crom, him being just a bit of flavor dialogue REH invented, it's a bit of a difficult question to answer.

Regarding possible domains and, above all, granting of spells, is that really fitting at all for Crom?
I seem to remember that the only thing Crom ever did for mortals was to give them the strength to live and kill, nothing more. In fact, didn't Conan say somewhere that there would be no use in praying to Crom because of this? He just won't listen.

get a hold of the 1edADnD Deities & Demigods...the 144pg version. there are a few examples of decent possibles in there.

I think that Crom has taken a hit recently. As far as I can tell, he's now a god of noses. You see the commercials on TV all the time these days for... NasalCrom!.

:D

Hmm... the closest I can associate Crom with is a deity mentioned only in previosu eds. of AD&D--the northern god Kos, from the Lankhmar/Nehwon mythos. He was described as the god of doom--more or less as a master of mortal fates.

You may want to have Crom be more of an earth-associated, non-Good version of Odin from Deities and Demigods (though with both eyes, of course). Or a mix between Odin & Tempus from FR. However, Crom doesn't really come off as chaotic, per se, but more indifferent. One to enforce rules in some instances, then ignore them in others. Crom seems to be a sort of war & death god, with an underworld theme (since he lives under the mountains).

My rough guess on the deity would be:

Crom, N god of doom, mountains, conflict/war, earthquakes/avalanches
Domains: Death, Destruction, Earth, Strength, War (perhaps Cavern & Metal domains from FRCS--Cavern as an extention of the earth theme, and Metal due to the "Riddle of Steel").
Symbol: Mountain, throne in a mountain, or something along those lines (or perhaps the wheel symbol that Conan wore in the movies).
Favored weapon: Longsword (or battleaxe)

Hope this helps.

I've got a bunch of that old Lhahnkhmhaharh stuff down in my basement somewhere. What book would I find that info in?
