Consider that the current crop of republicans don't consider how climate change will affect the country, the economy, or their constituents in the future. If it's not benefiting them now, it's going to take away from their bank accounts, and that just won't do.

Which means that even though the weather patterns may shift to be more favorable to grow corn & wheat in Canada, they may still not be able to match current production if their soil has the wrong trace minerals, is too acidic, too clay-like, is too shallow, or...

My understanding is that, for the grains we commonly use, this isn't an issue, thankfully. Cotton, however, may not be so lucky.

And that's all just the "breadbasket" grains - wheat and corn. A lot of the tree-fruits may have to look for new homes.
 

Berries & fruits- their flavors, especially- can be VERY sensitive to what minerals are in the soil.

I was also reading just last night about how kale and some of the other leafy greens that are sooooo nutritious for us are GREAT at absorbing heavy metals from the soil. Eat too much... The article included summaries of a few case studies in which vegetarian patients showed very high levels of heavy metals in their systems, with the leafy greens being the "Vegetables of Interest."

Shift production a few hundred miles north from traditional farmland into historically industrialized areas, and all of a sudden, we're eating more toxins.

OTOH, we are making all kinds of nifty advances in hydroponic farming, so...
