We must have read a different <em>Heart of Darkness.</em> Our first description of his dwelling focuses on the "peculiar" fencing: human heads on posts, all oriented to face inwards so that Kurtz can look out on them. He is the ultimate bogeyman of colonialism, exposing the horrifying truth behind the idealistic rhetoric. The "best man" that Europe could produce, exposed as a monster.</p></blockquote><p></p>
