Art; I love everything older than 20th century and am fascinated by what ancient art tells us about the world view of people from long ago. I particularly love the statuary of ancient Greece, the cave art of both the Aborigines and of the hunter-gatherers of France, and the menhirs and megaliths of the Neolithic period. Science; I love all areas of science, though my own professional expertise is in biochemistry, genetics and molecular biology (I have a Ph.D and 17 years experience as a research scientist). I have started a degree in maths recently to make good my knowledge of the physical sciences, which I find fascinating. Religion; Not religious but quite spiritual. I believe in a positive force that is without form or substance. I also believe there are immutable laws that seem to govern the spiritual Universe just as there are for the physical one. The closest formal religion I have ever found to it was Taoism, but even that is not exactly right. Historical Epoch; love Roman and Dark Age History but also like archeology and the Iron Age period. Hobbies; I like hiking, roleplaying, writing (fiction), reading (bad fantasy and Sci-Fi as well as science, economics and history) and drawing maps. Greatest loves are sword-fighting, sailing (or anything else on the water) and horse-riding, though the opportunities to do them get less and less as the years go by. I also greatly enjoy travel to remote areas and am interested in bushcraft and living with ethnic peoples. I often wish I had about a hundred lifetimes to follow all my interests (sigh).
