The "Kata" enchantment, and expanding the list of monk weapons

First Post
I once read somewhere that there is a weapon enchantment which allows a monk to use a non-monk weapon as a monk weapon. I seem to remember that this was called the "Kata" enchantment, or somesuch. Does anyone know where this came from?

This is for a high-powered Oriental Adventures campaign that we are running, and I am interested in making a monk/fighter combo who uses different monk weapons from the kama, nunchuka, staff or other monk weapons.

Also: Are there any alternate rules that anyone can suggest for expanding the list of available monk weapons? Either through, perhaps, Exotic Weapon Proficiency feats or another means?

The only one I can think of is ki focus from the DMG, which lets you use a weapon to deliver special monk attacks like Stunning Fist or Quivering Palm.

I think in the pre-3.5 dragons, there are a feat that let you use other weapons with monk abilities. Sorry, don't remember ish #.

Yep. A lot of the exotic weapons in the Arms & Equipment Guide were included as special monk weapons, like the tonfa & butterfly swords.

BTW, about the Eberron monk feats: which weapons did they include? I think longsword was 1 of them.

Longsword (Feat: Whirling Steel Strike), Longspear (F: Serpent Strike), and Double-bladed Sword (Double Steel Strike).

All require proficiency, Weapon Focus, and the Flurry of Blows ability.

See if you can use the Shou Disciple from one of the Forgotten Realms books (Unapproachable East I think). It really fits the fighter/monk concept, it's a 5 level PrC; gets a fighter's BAB, d10hp, two good saves (Fort & Refl I think), good skills (tumble, etc.) but only 2sp per level, increases unarmed damage, two bonus feats, increases the bonus you get from the Dodge feat (a requirement), as well as letting you flurry with light weapons at 3rd level and then all weapons at 5th level.

It'd easily fit in a high power OA game without any trouble and it removes all that annoying fiddling with taking weapon focus, etc.
