In case you don't really know what a lay off is (especially compared to firings):A lay off is when some workforce is let go from a company because of company reorganization, business slowdown, or other big activity. Usually, those individuals laid off are chosen for dismissal according to their position being removed or reduced rather than any good or bad performance on their parts.
