First Post
I am making a second character in case mine dies, because Hurricane gilbert(our DM :) ) likes to place us in alot of danger so another char just around the corner is always needed. Can anyone tell me if there is a program or a book that has a name generator in it for the different races. This part for me is always the hardest. can anyone help pls .

Do a Google search for the "Everchanging Book of Names" - or search for a file called ebon34.zip (the current version). Generate a few thousand names, and decide if any of them tickles your fancy - or pay the $10 to unlock the program and use the dozens of file sets people have generated for names in Greyhawk, Faerun, Tolkien, etc.

I hope it helps!

Some of my players like taking drug names and messing with them a bit. I wasn't too crazy though about having a character in my campaign named, Prozax de Lipitor.

In my Gehennum campaign I always gave demons the names of patent medicines. Fluoxetine was perhaps the greatest foe my players ever faced except for a couple of dragons (Sarkophyr and Khlorophane).

Why not just stick with "Man with no name?" You can be a character much like many of the Clint Eastwood characters. A lone drifter comes into town, sees the troubles of the poor local folk, and decides to put himself on the line to save them.

Or if that's too retro for you, another trick I sometimes use to come up with fantasy names is to bang on the keyboard for a short period without looking or even trying to type anything, and then look to see if anything I pounded out looks or sounds anything like a name. You would be surprised how well that works.
