Okay, rant time. This is as good of a place as any. The one thing this movie desperately needs to do is give the Yoda/Grogu species a name. Keeping Yoda's species unnamed was a cute little thing George Lucas bestowed upon the EU from very early days. It was one of the mandates given to WEG, and has remained as a sacred cow since then. And when we only had the original trilogy as primary canon, it made sense. Yoda was unique, and ostensibly any record of him (and anyone like him) was scrubbed sometime when the Jedi fell. And Luke was the only character who ever interacted with him. So his race was a mystery. Cool. But keeping this bit through the prequel trilogy was just pathetic. Yoda was a major public figure, in politics and on the Jedi council. And he wasn't even unique anymore - Yaddle was there, too! There is no way his species is a secret, in universe. The species must have a name, because that's how language works. Even if Yoda doesn't share what his species was called in his original language, or keeps the planet of origin or other facts secret. There will still be a word that people use (in universe) to refer to that species. Because people talk about things, and give labels to things. That's just the reality of how words and communication function. Even if it's "Unidentified Life Form #256", or some equivalent of "John Doe Species". It is impossible that a label for it doesn't exist. Which means the name of the species is only a secret to the audience. And that's pretty stupid. A blatant meta mandate from George Lucas that makes no sense and serves no purpose. It's a form of a fourth wall break. They might as well mug to the camera and wink every time they say "Yoda". Disney had a chance to fix this in The Last Jedi when they brought back Yoda's force ghost, but didn't. Okay, they weren't ready to rock that boat yet, and his appearance was limited enough that it could be overlooked. And in the beginning of The Mandalorian, they could still play with it a little bit, because Mando himself didn't really know what he was getting into. But the longer that The Mandalorian goes on, the more ridiculous it gets to keep up this farce. In universe, people know that this species exists. With or without Grogu saying it, people are talking about him and his race. In universe, people are using a label for that race. Now that it's a major motion picture, it's time. Give the species a name. Anything less is just beating a horse that's been dead so long it might as well be a force ghost.
