UM Update I've been busy with work stuff but have an update on the meat of the matter. This may be a ramble so get ready. *wink* Richard Pace: I knew that was your illustration, only it's not signed in the book. My favorite though is where the Illeth is reclining on a throne, a barren tree reaches up behind it, and the shattered globe is in the fore ground. It captures the fall of the Illeth Empire perfectly. The layout: It makes my cockles all a tingle when I read a gaming suppliment and there's no gristle, I mean crunchy bits, until page 37. And those numbers are for brain extraction rules! Thumbs up for the layout. The real stuff: I'm a rules light GM. Pages 1-44 are 99.9% story. Great stuff. I have never read the previous book on Mind Flayers mentioned in previous post so I can only tell you what I think about this treatment of insidious evil. It's so good that I don't want to sound stupid. But the fact that the authors made a serious effort to explain an alien mind and did a great job is high praise in my book. Illeth aren't just evil, they're alien. The degree of nuance that the writers put into developing Illeth psycology, sociology and morality is realistic and well done. Things to look for: "Discard" spells. Brain Burrow. Powers such as Decelerate Arcana and Spell Flay. Improved Levitation feat. Dark Slayer PrC. More evil coolness than can be shared easily. Over all this is the best product PCI has put out. The major editing problems are gone (just caught some very minor ones) and I love their lay out. ed-
