There's a no-food/no-drink policy here on Atlanta's MARTA system. I'm glad for it. Nothing unethical about having such rules or fining people for breaking them. Those labeling it as such haven't a leg to stand on--I found the whole "dying of thirst" arguement particularly amusing. Ah yes, I just see some poor dessicated husk being carried off the subway in a huge ashtray. In South Korea I spent a couple of years riding a subway system where people sat around on the subway drinking their rice wines. Saturday night's you get to play "doge-the-puke-puddle". The damnedest thing was, usually the guy puking his guts didn't elicit disgust or revulsion as often as it did empathy. Guy sitting next to him would pat the :):):):):):):) on the back as he chundered all over the floor. I'm sitting there wondering what was going through their heads--this guy doesn't have a terminal disease, after all. Now, back to Atlanta--I don't know about folks in other cities, but I would really love to see a "no-raving-lunatics" law enforced. Forget the guy with the Diet Coke, how about the racist freak screaming his head off incoherently and shaking his bible in people's faces?
