The New Polyhedron Magazine

What's it going to be called, and what company's publishing it?

Seriously, what company is going to talk to Wizards about picking up the ball that Paizo dropped?

I hope someone does, because I think that Poly Fans just aren't as vocal as the anti-Poly people that saw it dropped from Dungeon. I think they're out there, and can make a mag profitible.

I hope some companies at least look hard at this.

I think you are mistaken to acscribe this to which group is more vocal. Paizo said that they lost more sales than they gained by the change. If a lot of people complained, but the sales were there, then the product would stay.

If someone else made a new Poly-style product and it worked, then that would be great. But pretending the economic reality did not exist would be a poor way to start that effort.

HEY MORRUS!

How's "Polyhedron" as a new name for the EN WORLD PLAYER'S JOURNAL? :D

Just call it "EN WORLD PRESENTS... POLYHEDRON" or something.

Yeah, like THAT could ever happen...

If only.

But still, doesn't mean the mag can't be a lot like Poly was....

Incidentally, I'm gonna be announcing what's happening with the mag on Monday.

Uhm...the ball wasn't dropped by Paizo. It was thrown, as the customers requested. Personally I'll miss the mini games b/c the d20 Mecha Crusade, Spelljammer and Omega World were the 3 best minis I was able to buy that way and I'll miss that. Same time, making Dungeon more useful to a wider variety of DMs can only be a good thing. I think they're widening the possible interest of Dragon magazine by adding mini, MMO and CCG info, but I also think that may dilute the product too much.

Some folks have already complained that there will be too much crunch with each issue and teh players that already yammer "But I wanna use X from Z issue of Dragon and Y from Q issue for this character!" will have even more. More choice is a good thing yes, but there is a point of inundation.

I'd be very interested in what your magazine's new format will be (features, columns). I do wish you would allow WotC designers (current and former) as well as aspiring designers to submit mini-games to support d20 and d20 Modern.

Having said that, I wonder if Star Wars will get periodical support.

Well heck, even if you can't call it Polyhedron, you could always call it Ares. It's not like "Ares" as a term could possibly be trademarked or copyrighted. :D

I, too, am looking forward to hearing what the new format will be.

It can be trademarked, but no one in the RPG/Game industry have claimed it since TSR pretty much dropped it, when they dropped it out of their Dragon magazine.
