The new Polymorph Self

So according to Tome and Blood, Polymorph Self no longer allows you to change from shape to shape for the duration of the spell?

That was one of my favorite things about the spell

Well, it was rather strong, as 4th level spells go. Still is, in fact.

Bah. They ruined this spell in T&B. The full-round change part of the spell completely balanced out the ability to switch forms. Yes, you shouldn't be allowed to change into a Pit Fiend at 6th level, but they missed the point of this spell. A Wizard shouldn't use Poly Self to get into combat... he uses it to Polymorph into a Bat to fly above over a pit... then into a green slime to slide under a door ... then into Orc to walk right past the guards. That's what Polymorph Self is all about, IMHO.

Right, but be careful! Poly Other has permanent duration, and is not dismissable. You can't return to your natural self without a Dispel Magic (or another polymorph effect), so it's quite possible to get stuck in a non-spellcasting form.
