The Official PS2 games nomination Thread (2005)

John Crichton

First Post
The holiday season is upon us, as is the end of the current year. What better time than to add nominations? See the parent thread: http://www.enworld.org/showthread.php?t=158714.

My nominations will follow, please add to the thread as we go. Feel free to repeat a nomination to add your own opinions on any particular title.

God of War
Action games simply don't get better than this. The developers milked the aging PS2 for all it was worth and gave us a tremendous all around experience. The graphics, gameplay and audio of the game combined with smooth and forgiving control scheme were a near-perfect fit. If not for some late-game janky platforming elements the game would be perfect. The combat engine and smooth animations of Kratos were just flat-out fun. There was just enough story to draw me further into the experience. I haven't had this much fun with an action game since Resident Evil 2.

NBA Street v.3

I've always been a fan of this series and the latest version was another improvement. An overall smooth game visually and with the controls. Tons of customized options and a great career mode. The dunk mode needs a facelift and more of a challenge added to it but other than that there are many hours of fun either playing alone or against a pal. Fantastic sports game.

Resident Evil 4

A great remake of the Gamecube classic. Great graphics, controls and story. An instant classic...

Haunting Ground

A much overlooked survival horror game from Capcom.

Gran Turismo 4

Had everything you would expect from a Gran Turismo game. More cars, more tracks, better graphics and no improvements in AI what so ever. A shame it didn't include online play.

God of War

Best action game of the year. 'Nuff said.

What can I say? I'm not even an action game fan and I loved this game. Every attack looks awesome and the controls are easy enough.

We Love Katamari
An excellent sequel to the ball-rolling quirkiness that is Katamari Damacy. New stages, new objectives, same crazy fun!

And then a couple games that are multisystem (that I actually played for Xbox but I can't imagine would be too much different on the PS2):

Indigo Prophecy
Simply a magnificiently well-made game that takes you through a highly engaging plot. Innovative control scheme and awesome interactive action sequences make this game simply awesome.

Psychonauts
This platformer doesn't offer anything new, but it's a fun game with a great style and great humor.
