[QUOTE="Warpiglet-7, post: 8901050, member: 7025282"] Bottom line: they want to make a preferred portal that many will use to play. It will cost a lot to even get on board. Adding things each cost money. Much like loot crates and other things that Are cheap singly will really really add up. If they get critical mass they can make open play and “typical” player groups dependent on this platform. The pressure to find groups will drive a lot of folks to rationalize….it’s only a dollar a day to stay in my hobby! And I think some of us who think this is garbage are expendable really if u get people to buy in. They KNOW they have players who only borrow books or worse. Force some of them into paying and you make many times the losses of people like me. Sorry to say it! And then the character generator apps and other things get yanked. The platform only allows official things—-your character is not acceptable if you rolled on another program. Comply and pay or be a scrub without a group. I mean I don’t blame managers and executives. They are doing what they do. I only blame myself for the temptation to ride along. Just wild times. And no, I am not being hyperbolic. It’s what they want and are ultimately aiming for. And if the virtual stuff is good enough, they will make it happen. Back in the 80s and 90s we had fantasizes about this—-movies or games that follow and represent our D&D tabletop in real time. The big difference of course is we never dreamed of giving up control or making our game “less than” unless we pay up. But here it is. Just no way. Playing with pals, ordering food and cracking beers together is the way and cannot be replaced. Freedom from Constraint and censoring and licensing is the way. Make your game great! Or Make it terrible but don’t let these suits approve of it or define or license it or monetize it! Rebel HARD. Imagine people with more money buying better things for their characters. Horsesh*t!
