The party has become kind of involved with an undead civil war that has been brewing between the liches of the Twisted Rune. The first attack of this civil war had just begun and the PC's were witness to a Dracolich doing battle with a female lich whom is his rival. The female lich lost (but had for the moment escaped) and offered the party "power" in kind of a nebulous way. She didn't promise anything specific, but the deal was that she would "bend fate" to help the PC's destroy this great evil Dracolich that had mortally wounded her, her motive was simple revenge, kill her killer as it were. The PC's part of this bargain was to be that they would swear a geas (a magical oath) to her, so that she could be assured after she "died" that they would be true to their word and destroy the Dracolich eventually. I didn't really expect the party to take this deal, the Rogue of the group doesn't like to make deals/swear oaths, the Invoker is determined to destroy undead at every turn but would never bind himself into the service of undead, the mage might have, but I expected him to follow suit with the rest of the party. Lastly we have a good aligned Paladin of Tymora (goddess of luck) and he was the last person I expected to make a deal like this with a lich, but oddly, he jumped at the chance for power. I feel like this was an unpaladin-like move on his part. Now I'm thinking this will be a good RP opportunity, was I was imagining was giving the Paladin a choice, he's got to either redeem himself via holy type quest and ends with him being freed from the geas, but I don't want to force redemtion on him if he doesn't want it....so: I was thinking that Demogorgon might try to become his Patron. Demogorgon is and eternal foe of Orcus, the demon prince of the undead, so I thought this might be a good opportunity for Demogorgon to have a mortal champion who is in fact in the business of destroying the minions of his hated rival already. I'm thinking the Paladin has dreams of a Gaping Maw as a metaphor for Demogoron's layer of the Abyss, temptations, voices, things like that. At the same time, Tymora and her agents would try to encourage him to redeem himself...ultimately I'll leave the choice up to him. So then, any ideas for things to throw at him one way or the other? Or does this all sound like a bad idea?
