Imagine his outrage when he got a son who, with the exception of a broadened visual spectrum, had no noticeable enhancements. Stalwart, Steadfast, and Vigilant mostly like it fine that way. Stalwart's a Legionnaire, and the other three (including Van) have joined Star Force. All have risen to positions of command, but only Van required the level of influence that Admiral Phineous Curran was able to bear on the Concord military brass in order to get him his command. Van went to officer training school, but would have flunked out had not Admiral Dad pulled some strings. A Concord Administrator (Jocelyn Kara) personally signed off on his graduation and arranged for his first command, a retrofitted Geneva Trailblazer commissioned the CSS Pacific.

For his part, Van would much rather find the time to persue his true passion: standard and xeno-biology. He's had to learn most of his scientific skills quickly and on the sly (dad was always pulling him out of classes or taking books from him). Being able to see it once and remember is the only way he's gotten as far as he has (it's unclear if this photographic memory is a lesser element of his augmentation or not, but Van's not particularly worried). He's hoping his own command might afford him the distance he needs to find the stregth to get out from under the admiral's yoke and lead the life of a scientist that is his true calling.[/sblock]

Appearance: Van, to his father's great disappointment, is generally a whole lot of average. He has dark coloring: black hair, brown eyes, olive skin. He's in relatively good shape, but nothing to go making holocast centervids with. The most distinguishing physical aspect to him is probably his tendency to wear dark black sunglasses in normal lighting levels. While the light doesn't affect his ability to function, his thermal vision tends to make "normal" lighting seem a bit excessive all the same.
