I've got a better story... My character - a 14th level Dwarven Barbarian/Ranger/Fighter who's using a waraxe in two hands - is the only thing left standing between party members trapped in a (barred) forcecage with no way of getting out, and a Half-Ogre (or something along those lines) Barbarian with four attacks that seem to be doing 25-35 damage per hit. Our swashbuckler/rogue had gotten hit by him three times and is trying to hide in a corner with single-digit hitpoints, and digging up a healing potion, while my character, who's raging and had started with around 200hp had gotten hit four times, and is down to around 90. I"m about to attack, but I don't have high hopes - I can do maybe 70 points of damage if all my attacks hit, and realistically, I'm expecting to do 45 or so. If he's not going to kill my character on his next full attack, he will the round after that, long before I can drop him - and I say as much out loud. This prompts the DM to say something along the lines of "Oh, come on... You do almost as much damage as he does". I say something angry in response, about how learning to do basic math and staying away from hard drugs would probably be a good idea, and throw the dice. I roll two 20's, two 19's and one 18, for a total of three hits and two confirmed criticals - and end up doing something like 160 or 170 points of damage to the Half-Ogre... Who decides at that point that discretion is the better part of valor, leaving all of us alive after all.
