[QUOTE="Messageboard Golem, post: 2011604, member: 18387"] I am extremely pleased with this product. It provides a wealth of new material for the Arcanis lovers in the world, as well as lots of crunchy bits. First the production quality is excellent. The book is hard bound and stitched; additionally the paper feels substantial. The art work is pretty good, although it is a little dark in some areas of the book making the illustrations difficult to make out. It is a bit pricey at close to $40 but personally I feel it is well worth the investment. It is a meaty book though with well over 300 pages of material. Even if one isn't a devotee of the Arcanis world setting, there's a wealth of Feats and PrCs within it along with a host of interesting Core Classes, including some very interesting variants of Paladins called the Holy Champions which grant some decidedly non-paladin like powers. Of course the material is much more meaningful to any one with the Codex Arcanis, in fact I would recommend that if you're going to buy the Player's Guide, you definitely will want to get the Codex b/c the material covered in both books is different. The background material in the PGtA updates the Arcanis world to reflect what has occured within the past few years since the Codex arcanis was released. There is very little within the book that is redundant with the Codex so honestly both books are necessary. It introduces detailed information on several locations alluded to in passing within the Codex, including details on the races as well as the politics of the world. The Arcanis setting, is an incredibly rich setting which takes the normal d20 assumptions and turns them on their end. For example, they have an innovative approach to alignments that makes a lot more sense to me (specifically, they postulate that Gods don't have alignments, their worshippers do, and as such it is possible to have the entire moral spectrum worshipping just about any deity. Given some of the atrocities that have been commited in religion's name in the Real World, this seems a lot more intuitive to me. Additionally they introduce an interesting new mechanic that specifies exactly what you can do while channelling divine or negative energy. Ever wondered what they meant in the PHB on the section about Turning undead and channeling energy, indicating that there are other uses for channelled energy, well now some very interesting ideas are available with the publication of the PGtA. Bottom line: if you like Arcanis, then this is a must buy, and even if you have another campaign world that you favor; there's an enormous amount of material within that is emminently useful.
