"No need." Amaryllis shakes her head. "It's not too much..." There is knocking on a door somewhere; it sounds like it's coming from beyond the door to the room you're in. "Hold on." She says. She heads to the other room, shutting the door behind her. However, it seems to be rather thin; you can hear a door open in the other room. "Larkalth?" You hear Amaryllis' voice ask. The sound is slightly muffled, but you can make it out easily enough. "Yes." You hear a familiar voice respond. "Just came to remind you that Baltin hasn't forgotten your game tonight. And that we will be watching." "You know as well as I do that I don't cheat." "I'm just the messenger." The familiar voice responds gruffly. "Just remember to watch your back." A pause. "Oh, by the way, where were you last night?" "In the market, buying some food." Amaryllis says. "Why?" "Nothing of consequence. I was looking for someone last night, and I have reason to believe he showed up in the market. Rumor had it that you picked someone up off the street... is that so?" "No." "Hmm... is that soup?" You hear footsteps, and the voice grows clearer. "Smells good." "I'm glad you approve." "Though I wonder why there are two bowls." The voice says. "That's somewhat odd for someone who lives alone, don't you think?" "No." Amaryllis says. "I didn't have a pot big enough for it all, so I used two bowls to keep it in." "I see." The voice says. It sounds closer, as though its source is just behind the door. "You wouldn't lie to me, would you, Amaryllis? We've come to know each other quite well since your father died and you took his place. I wouldn't want something this small to come between us." "I'm not hiding anything, Larkalth." She says. "What would I have to gain? You and the others watch me like hawks. I know the rules." "Well... in that case, I'll let you be. Just remember to not be late." "I know." "Then I'll be on my way." The voice says, and footsteps head back for the door. "Watch your back." The door in the other room shuts. There is silence for a few moments, and then Amaryllis opens the door. "Sorry about that. Do you need anything? I have to go out for awhile... need to check on some things. I can bring your soup in for you, if you'd like."
