No, I'm not trying to wrangle an editing job out of this. I'm just of the mind that if I'm going to make a statement like "The Quintessential Sorcerer has the absolutely worst record of any RPG product I've ever read as far as the quality of the proofreading and editing goes" in a review, I'd better be willing to back it up. Providing a few examples would show there was a problem (and I've taken this approach in other reviews); slapping down the whole list demonstrates the severity of the problem. I think I also had the hope (however slight) that by documenting the number of errors I might somehow hopefully avoid such a recurrence on Mongoose's part in the future. I agree, it would be nice if the manuscript sent in was error-free, but I still put most of the blame on the editor/proofreader for letting these errors get into print. Even if, as you point out, the editor should have sent the manuscript back to Patrick Younts to be fixed up, this apparently didn't happen so one way or the other the editor seems to be shirking his job. I've seen several separate instances in Mongoose books where the editor seemed to think his only job was to run the manuscript through a spellchecker program, but I've also seen plenty of others where this was not the case (or perhaps the manuscript in question was just much closer to being error-free). In any case, I hesitate to make a sweeping statement that Mongoose editors aren't doing their jobs, but it sure looks like at least some of them are asleep at the wheel.
