First Post
Hi, folks,
I've written up details on the critter I had originally submitted to the Creature-by-Poll contest we had in the General forum. Let me know what you think, especially regarding the phenomenon of getting smaller as it ages.

This red, leathery, spiked, seven-limbed creature attacks opponents at range using small dimension doors.
The regtenar is an ugly, draconic creature with a red, leathery hide and spikes all over its body. Three tapering legs sprout radially from its abdomen, and four arms emerge from its upper body. It has seven eyes arranged in a seemingly haphazard manner across its skull. Its jaw is fixed in a permanent crimson grin, with short, thick, sharp teeth always displayed.
The regtenar, a carnivore, takes advantage of its magical reach when hunting, grabbing deer, birds, and other creatures smaller than itself and drawing them near, finishing them off with a dimensional tear. Regtenars have a very efficient metabolism, and can get by on a relatively small amount of food. The regtenar is also fond of alcohol, and if it detects an adventuring party with a decent supply, it will attack to seize the precious liquid for itself.
Despite its abilities, the regtenar isn't an inveterate pickpocket like the boggle, another creature with similar powers. If caught while young and trained for the purpose, it should be possible to instill such instincts into the creature.
Oddly enough, the strange regtenar gets smaller as it ages.
Combat:
The regtenar prefers to strike from hiding, taking advantage of its dimensional reach to take down opponents, and finishing thm off with a dimensional tear. If seriously threatened, the regtenar will flee using its dimension door ability.
Dimensional Strike (Su): By forming small dimension doors, the regtenar can attack at range with its slam attacks. The effect is as the spell cast by a 7th-level sorcerer, except the range is 10 feet/hit die. The strike can come from any direction (up, down, behind, etc.), and the regtenar enjoys a +2 circumstance bonus when using this attack (effectively flanking its opponent).
The regtenar can create enough small dimension doors for all four of its arms. The regtenar is able to bring objects it has grasped back through these doors, and if it has successfully grappled an opponent (see above), then it can temporarily join the two small dimension doors to allow the opponent to be brought through into the regtenar's space, so long as the opponent does not exceed the weight limits on dimension door (50 lbs/level).
Improved Grab (Ex): If the regtenar manages to hit an opponent with two of its slam attacks, it can start a grapple as a free action, without provoking an attack of opportunity. This ability also works on opponents struck by a dimensional strike (see above). When this happens, the dimension doors join together and dilate to bring the opponent through to the archbold's space. The regtenar can grapple normally or use its dimensional tear on grappled victims.
Dimensional Tear (Su): As a free action, the regtenar can warp space around itself, causing immense physical stress to anything it is grappling. The victim takes 2d6 points of damage (Fort save for half, DC 15). Regtenars are immune to this damage. This ability can be used three times a day.
Dimension Door (Su): At will, as the spell cast by a 7th-level sorcerer.
Spikes (Ex): The regtenar, covered in spikes, deals 1d3 damage to anyone in a grapple with it. The spikes bestow upon opponents a -2 circumstance penalty for leaving a grapple with the regtenar.
All-Around Vision (Ex): The regtenar's seven oddly-located eyes gives it a +4 racial bonus to Spot and Search checks, and it can’t be flanked.
Vulnerable to Dimensional Effects: Spells like dimensional anchor, cast on the regtenar, stun the beast for 1d4 rounds unless it makes a Will save against the effect. If it ever finds itself in an area which blocks interdimensional travel, it is reduced to partial actions until it can escape.
