A force of over 300 humans led by a group of powerful adventurers descended on the clan and annihilated it. Hargash’s well-trained troops inflicted heavy casualties on the invading humans but they were severely outnumbered. Torkal, the orog chieftain, was slain by a spell hurled by one of the adventurers that caused his flesh to literally melt from his bones. Hargash knowing the battle was lost, looted what he could from his fallen warriors and escaped into the hills unnoticed in the chaos of battle.</p><p></p><p>Hargash believes he is the oldest orc in existence, and he may be right. He feels that it is by the grace of Gruumsh alone that he has lasted so long, he knows the god must be getting some kind of perverse amusement out of “the oldest orc in the world”. </p><p></p><p>After escaping the battle that destroyed his tribe Hargash has eked out a meager existence alone in the hills, hunting what he can catch and stealing from the human towns when he has to. He managed to pluck a few choice items from the dead after the battle, including his former sword and armor and a pair of magic gauntlets from Torkal. He also found an amulet that lessened the pain from his arthritis on a slain human adventurer as well as a couple of curative potions. Bolstered by magic and a vast pool of experience he has fended off gnolls and even a marauding ogre that thought the ancient orc would be easy pickings. Hargash spends most of his days asleep in the small cave he now calls home, dreaming of his former glory and hoping that he might die in battle instead of meekly passing away in his sleep. </p><p></p><p>Death finally finds Hargash in his 78th year. Asleep in his cave, he is awakened suddenly by a stony rumbling and as he climbs to his feet and draws his sword a large portion of the cave wall swings open to emit a group of drow warriors. Surprised by the hoary old orc, the drow none the less set to the task of killing and robbing him. Sorely outnumbered and outgunned, Hargash fights ferociously and manages to slay 4 drow warriors before a drow sorceress blasts him with lightning bolt from her wand.
