Kickstarter The Serpent, Sci-Fi Campaign and Setting (Traveller Compatible)

Yosano

First Post
A dramatic coup upfolds at a corrupt despot's court. Occupying invaders hunt down dissenters. An ancient laboratory holds the secret to victory, or destruction.

The team behind the acclaimed Coriolis campaigns, The Eye of the Sun and The Gift of the Wind Dragon, are now preparing a sci-fi campaign of intrigue, diplomacy, espionage and explosive violence, inspired by classic Persian literature: The Serpent. The pre-launch page is up on Kickstarter now - so if this sound intriguing, follow the campaign on Kickstarter, here.

The Plot

The players' character travel to a little-known system to set up a new outpost of The Shujae Mining Corporation - a challenge perfect for traders and merchants, diplomats and agents, or mercenaries and spies tasked with protecting NPC negotiators.

But the characters arrive to find an invasion of the system in progress. And on the backwater planet where they land, an insidious conspiracy plots to seize control and enslave the population.

A series of adventures (investigations, rescues, ambushes, negotiations...), mixed with the players' own proactive diplomacy and scheming, leads the characters to an ancient site which all factions in the war-torn system would kill to possess. But the old ruin's secret is not unguarded, and in the final dramatic confrontation the characters may find that the horrors within the ancient facility are more dangerous than the war fleets which are closing in on them....

The Systems

For Traveller referees, The Serpent is published under the Traveller Compatible 3rd party license, with stat blocks and rules guides included in the book, and we're keeping the guys at Mongoose fully in the loop every step of the way.

For Coriolis GMs we're producing a completely free Conversion Guide that shows how The Serpent fits into the Dabaran Route, adds Faction involvement, and includes stats.

The Team

We're now fulfilling our first ever Kickstarter (delivered two months ahead of schedule), and planning this as our next. The writer/designer (Kevin) and editorial designer (Marija) have worked together on several projects before (including several sci-fi supplements for Coriolis, available on DTRPG), and Kevin's RPG writing experience goes back to professional writing for White Wolf, Chaosium, etc. in the 90s. On this we're joined by a new character artist (Dian).

Schedule

We're expecting to go live with the campaign around the end of February, and then to send out the print books to backers in the summer. So if you want an evocative, devious, in-depth sci-fi campaign for your group later this year, Follow along!
