The Sims 2: What is this DVD Edition stuff?

I really want to get The Sims 2, but I am a bit confused. What is this 'DVD Edition' thing? What is on it that isn't on the non DVD edition game? And do I really need an 8X DVD Rom to play this?

Hmmm, I don't know about the Sims. But I know that Neverwinter Nights Platinum comes in both DVD and CD versions. The DVD is one disc, I believe, while the CD version has four disks. They're both the same program, though.

The DVD has a bonus disk with movies, tips and tricks and what-have-you. I haven't checked it out yet, though. As for the 8X DVD requirement, it's true. The game itself is exactly the same though (read: very addictive).
