CHANVATI scrutinizes the mural of his ancestors, eyes flicking from the countenance of one to another in a desperate attempt to glean some aid from their collective wisdom, when something begins to go terribly wrong. Charya Audaseie, founder of his line, no longer looks on with satisfaction, reclining beneath a fig tree, at his legacy; his mouth gapes, hands raised to either cheek in abject terror. Grandmother Oditi, his father's mother, that woman of wizened visage and gnomic phrases, no longer scowls in concentration at the game before her but bleeds dark ichor from empty sockets where should be her eyes. Chanvati feels the midday meal rising in his throat. His vision swims. Something is deeply amiss, and Pa'avu must feel it too. She braces herself against the pillar, head wilting. "Gosb'tar, end this enchantment," she growls. "Draw upon my l'pahb'gin!" she offers and reaches out her hand. Chanvati grasps it, an almost intimate act, and siphons her ki energy to steady himself. Blending the goliath's ki with as much psionic energy as he can muster, he looks upon the mural once again. And that's when he notices it. Beside the gameboard before Oditi lies a scattered deck of cards. His grandmother's hand covers one almost entirely, but just discernible beneath her little finger is the visible crescent of a sickly purple sphere. His grandmother's eyes, no longer missing from the scene, seem to twinkle at him. Chanvati reaches up to the left corner of the mural and covers the ominous representation of Dread Caiphon with his own hand, obscuring it from view.

Pa'avu makes a Secondary Skill Endurance check to lend Chanvati the strength of her ki: r(18) +8 = 26 vs. 10 Easy DC = Successful+2 buff to Chanvati's Primary Skill Insight check (augmented by Adept's Insight; encounter power) to read the expressions and intentions of his ancestors' countenances in the mural for aid in countering this magic ward: r(16) +11 +2 +r(1)+1 = 31 vs 22 Hard DC. Success.
