Message: <blockquote data-quote="Messageboard Golem" data-source="post: 2008743" data-attributes="member: 18387">I got several of these products as of late -2 were gifts, the first one I purchased myself which is the one I am reviewing right now.  I wish I sent this review to my player's group first so they would not have wasted their time with the others.FIRST OFF: What is it with the cover art on these guys products?  It is just plain TERRIBLE.  So is the internal art with a few exceptions.  Mongoose so clearly wants to become the next big thing, why the heck even now (and I have seen the "naval" book with the guys rowing) do they use LOUSY cover art.  Can they not afford more?  Many of the smaller d20 creators have way better cover art -this is shameful.OK, enough rant on the truly lousy art.  Let's move on to the lousy book.They have such presence on the boards and "herald" their products something akin to the second coming that I really expected something better -you'd think it should be better than WOTC.  It pans out to be right in the centre of d20 mediocrity.  This earlier offering really doesn't take anything too far, to the extreme or inspires me to do anything more than apply the beatdown as per normal on these guys.  It was just a bunch of flavor thrown around a few scrappy crappy rules and that's it.Maybe this is unfair?  I expected something to use over a long-term, hopefully at a campaign level but it offers me nothing in this direction.  Maybe some large panning story arcs that could include hobgoblins -in particular using the new *rules* that were included.  Instead I get a bland fort, how they change their underwear and what kind of sausages they eat......hmmmm.....That said, it told me what I already knew quite well and it was cheap -on all levels.</blockquote>
