Ryland and Devlin made their way to the harbor. An unusual glow seemed to be coming from that part of town, reflected by the overcast sky. As they drew closer, it was apparent that something was burning, despite the warm drizzling rain. It was not surprising that they encountered the city fire brigade; what was surprising was that instead of burning building, they were trying to contain the fire of a blazing ship. "By the Gods, how can anything burn in this weather!", cried a member of the fire brigade as he drew a string of buckets dripping from the harbor. "Yesterday, it was that warehouse, today a cursed ship! What next, is a cistern going to catch on fire?" "Just hurry up with those buckets!", yelled one of his comrades. As fast as they could, three men rushed the buckets to the ship, while another man threw a string of buckets to the first. The burning ship seemed a lost cause, as it seemed likely to burn all the way to the waterline. Every now and then a string of buckets didn't make it to the burning ship, as they were needed to quench some line or rigging on one of it's neighbors. At least the fire watch had sense enough to contain the blaze, even if there was little hope of putting it out. A dock officer with a long face ambled by. Seeing the pair, he shook his head sadly. "Rain from above, the sea below", he observed. "What most lubbers don't realize is that everything in between is dry as a twig, 'else they'd never float." He addressed the pair more directly. "A fine night for a walk, isn't it? A fine night indeed." He spoke words of irony, his tone not lost on the man and gnome. OoC: Ryland is at 9/10.
