I've reworded the Blade Channeling feature to hopefully make it less obscure. The idea is that it's a particular spell that you're using to empower your weapon, hence the restriction on having to have it prepared. Basically, you're trading the immediate benefit of casting, say, Fireball, to gain a longer term benefit of a magical flaming sword. Quick Burn vs. Slow Burn. Being able to have an "On Demand" magic weapon to bypass resistance is one of the main perks of the feature, so I don't know if I want to weaken its usefulness by giving it away for free (the Devoted Paladin, for instance, has to burn its Channel Divinity to do the same thing). The other main benefit is being able to use your Intelligence modifier for the attack roll in exchange for losing a few points of damage, sort of like the "Intelligent Blademaster" feat, only more balanced. In the original draft, I did actually have the Swordmage learn cantrips (including Booming Blade and Greenflame Blade), but the feedback I got was that Half-Casters shouldn't have access to cantrips. So, I replaced that with Blade Channeling. And yes, Mythal Recovery was a 2nd Level Utility power that allowed the Swordmage to make a saving throw as a minor action to end a status effect. I modified it into a self-healing ability to give them more tanking power, since they don't have access to Cure Wounds.
