Beach Encounter - Round 2 Carmilla makes her way down the hill. The snow, reaching to the tops of her calves, slows her down a bit. Two of the soldiers (S6 & S7) advance cautiously forward and fire at the. One of the arrows finds its mark but fails to pierce her unliving flesh. Lon catches his target completely by surprise. He whispers something that sounds like "Daffodils" before the light goes out of his eyes and he slide out of his saddle. A couple of the others nearby take notice. One (S3) shouts, "Hey there, what'ye think you're doing?" and rashly attempts to pull Lon out of his saddle. He gets a sword point in his shoulder for his trouble. (Attempting to grapple an armed opponent provokes an Attack of Opportunity. I went ahead and rolled for Lon and scored a hit for 3 hp damage.) The other soldier (S12) kneels in the snow to check on his downed comrade. James Dukar continues his rain of arrows. The captain is thrown back a couple feet when one well-placed shaft sinks deeply into his shoulder. The leader barely pauses for breath as jerks it free and continues to shout orders. "Hold the line, you lot! Let the horses go! Winnis, Taven, for the love of the Flame, take down that sniper!" In the chaos, its difficult to tell if anyone's actually listening to him. One of the soldiers nearest him is gathering up some of the horses Tibalt set free and seems to be set on forcing them on the archers that are attempting to pincushion Camilla. Andrinor charges forward, but, like Camilla, he is slowed by the heavy drifts. However, the horse are obligingly coming almost straight to him. (As a move action you can catch one next turn, but you will need to make a Handle Animal check to do so.) Tibalt's dweomer is partially effective. The mounted soldier closest to him nearly drops from his saddle in panic before spurring his mount to maximum speed. He charges up the beach, hysterically screaming "We're all going to die! We're all going to die!" The other shakes his head in horrified disbelief, but stands his ground. Halden Kraal seems to skim over the top of the snow as he charges down the hill. One of the soldiers (S2), who had been speeding to investigate the baby in distress, slows up his advance, instead unslinging a spear and warily awaiting the Risen monk. Before Alton Grefe can cast his spell, the mounted warrior is upon him. The soldier brings his sword down in a deadly arc meant to remove the sorcerer's head, but Alton is able to back up far enough that the steel merely cuts through air. The horseman continues to gallop past and Alton casts his spell on his retreating back. It is not apparent at the moment whether the glitterdust had any effect. The cardinal has yet to come out of his tent.
