When I first heard this movie I was quite surprised. I really only remember two things about the original Toxic Avenger movie. It was pretty bad and the woman who played Toxies girlfriend was beautiful. I don't think she appeared in anything else.

There was a Saturday morning cartoon too...which...yeah 80's.

Yeah, I'm not sure this was really needed. It's another reboot/remake of a property. In this case it's a somewhat forgotten or ignored property.

The same could be said for every production of Shakespeare, so I'm not sure it is a particularly powerful argument.

Isn't that the best kind of property to give a new treatment to? People complain when you touch a beloved property. Nobody's childhood deeply depends on the original Toxic Avenger.

This thing is open to criticism - say, about how its content is apparently so over-the-top gorey and graphic that it was considered unreleaseable, and they couldn't find anyone willing to distribute it for two years.

Being a reboot is likely going to be the least offensive thing about it.

Well, I would argue that when a property is forgotten is actually when a reboot/remake makes sense. YMMV.

The larger issue for me is that I don't know what Troma is trying to do with this. Troma's movies are pretty much all schlock. That's their schtick. They make bad movies. Sometimes that translates to entertaining, sometimes it doesn't. I've seen more Troma movies than I should probably admit; I like their stuff a lot more than Sharknado or some other contemporaries. Stuff like Class of Nukem High, Redneck Zombies, or Rabid Grannies have a certain campy charm. And there's always a little cheap fun in finding early stuff from current stars like watching Sean Gunn in Tromeo and Juliet.

But this looks... different. Established actors intentionally taking a step down in quality is different than aspiring actors with no budget. More parody than camp. I dunno. I may also be past the age where I find bad movies entertaining.

This one looks a lot like there was a Hollywood party one night, and Dinklage said, "Hey, folks, this looks like it could be a blast! Just letting loose where nobody will give a damn! Who is with me!?!"

Hmm. Which is more likely: Dinklage at the helm, or Kevin Bacon arranging this to make the Troma/Lloyd Kaufman connection and reset the Bacon Number for a whole swath of Hollywood? :)

As a fan of Troma films in general and Toxie in particular, this looks like pretty much exactly what I want in a TA remake. This should not be a film for subtlety and good taste, and the trailer made me laugh out loud three separate times. I'll be there!
