Hey, maybe I should actually reply to my own homebrew thread! I see where you're coming from, but I disagree. Not safeguarding against accidentaly corrupting people seems careless and evil. Intentionally using your natural ability to weaken people, when engaged in deadly combat, doesn't seem much more evil then burying an axe in somebody. People worry because the corruption can happen unintenionally. Most Umi are perfectly willing to use it against enemies that they actually want to hurt. Some people are also concerned because they believe (incorrectly) that the corruption has lasting effects. Umi have been largely kept from interacting with other races for so long that much about them has become more legend than fact, and since the legends are rarely tested, even those who suspect inaccuracies don't always know what they are. Impossible. Corrupting Touch requires actual skin-to-skin contact--pretty much the opposite of a touch attack. I suppose if the Umi monk wasn't wearing gloves and was attacking somebody completely naked, that could work; considering the rarity of that situation compared to ones that would make delivering corruption in combat nigh impossible, I did allow them to use it as a touch attack, but it requires a standard action. Besides, even with the feat that allows them to hit more than once, they have to expend their psionic focus. They could still only corrupt twic per round. That may be true (and I'd like to think it is), but I'd still like them to be mechanically balanced. Any of them in particular? And any suggestions? You really think so? It's ability damage available at low levels, but other than that I didn't think it was much. It's low damage, once a round, and only once to each target. With a feat, you can do it twice to a target before you have to spend a full round focusing between each attempt; with two feats, once a round to a single targed. At the expense of doing anything else that uses psionic focus. It can also be resisted with a saving throw (DCs based on the race's penalized scores) and several immunities. And must be delivered at melee range, which most mages aren't too fond of. They get +1 natural armor, naturally psionic, +2 racial bonus on (probably rare) situational saving throws, a psi-like ability, and Corrupting Touch, in exchange for imbalanced abilities and a -1 penalty on all saves. Considering the ideas I was working with when I did the mechanics, I was worried about making them too weak, so I went easy on them. Perhaps I went too far. Would dropping the natural armor and the Int bonus (both of which are really good for wizards and psions, which they seem to favor in the first place) put them back on track?
