The Welfare of the Grand Poobah (Gary G.)

Henry

Autoexreginated
The recent discussions involving Gary in General RPG Forums got me thinking about something: I haven't heard from Gary in a while, and was wondering if anyone close to him might have more info. Last post I saw from the man himself at Dragonsfoot was dated May 1st or so, and I noticed that Davis Chenault (Cleaverthepit) posted a Castles & Crusades update from Gary recently, but that's been all.

Beyond being concerned about the release schedules of various C&C projects he's involved in, I was also concerned about his well-being. Does anyone have any current news on this front?

Thanks to all.

well, they haven't announced he's dead, so hopefully that means he is recovering/ed and doing well. I would like to hear something definite too.

Whatever the case, those of us who are going to GenCon should get a big-ass get well card and all sign it, then find someone who knows where to mail it too, and ask them to do so. I think that would be a nice addition to the tons of e-mails he has surely gotten.

I'll buy the card and pay postage.

I've been over at Rob Kuntz forum reading up on Dungeon 112 and somewhere in there he mentioned talking to Gary about Castle Greyhawk and other things. If I recall correctly, Gary is writing about 2 hours a day now and thinking of working up to 4 hours a day.

Henry,

Gary posted on the Lejendary Adventure boards on june 11. He has not been posting to much as far as I can tell. If you want his email let me knwo.

Thanks, isidorus. I wasn't aware that he had been posting more recently, and I thought about e-mailing, but I hate to bug the man personally.

Gary and his health

Though I cannot speak for Gary, I can tell you that I speak to Gary every day. Basically he has recovered nicely from his stroke. No perm. damage was sustained and mentally he is as fit as ever . . . and just as grouchy . . . but his medicine has slowed him down and his doctor has suggested that he take it easy for awhile. A thing he is doing most unwillingly.

He is presently working on the part 3 of the Dungeons of Castle Greyhawk and editing material for the GFW series. I can't speak for non Trollish projects but I think he's working on or just finished a mod for Dungeon magazine. Though don't quote me.

All in all, Gary's health is good and stable. I have not asked him how quiting smoking is going however as he's like to crush my skull with some blunted object! ;)

Troll Lord:

Thanks for the update!!! It is good to hear that Gary is doing better and resting up. Hopefully he will be posting here soon.

If anyone gets the chance to attend one of Gary's talks, which he sometimes gives at conventions, you might want to attend. I attended one that had a lot of good advice, and was very funny.

IIRC Gary's address is in the Lake Geneva phone book (which is viewable online) though he may not appreciate getting fan mail that way. :\
