I got the news in a txt msg from my wife. RJ - was a good author, orginal (after the first book) and epic in scope. I just read the better half of the series again this year, ending in book six - with the memory of why I had quit collecting it (although I have read them all) I remember a feverish quest to catalog all the mentions of the game Snakes and Foxesand its basis in actually dealing with the animal-headed, extra-planer humanoids, seen only on the far side of gates. I have long maintained that If he had been willing/able to finish the series in 8 books (to match the eight ages of time) he would have been one of my all time favorite authors. So even though I look forward to a posthumous conclusion to the series, Once Again I worry about its pacing. A one book finish seems to fast, but to squeeze two books from unfinished notes and skeletons of ideas ..... My fav posthumos book was Prelude to Foundation - while its sequal the disjointed Forward the Foundation finished the tale but in a disjointed, unsatisfactory way The player of the Heron-marked (facial tatto) Blademaster in my game will be told of the shudder in the fabric of the void, next time he goes into his combat trance.
